Which filler we use under the eye
The skin under the eye is some of the thinnest on the body, so the choice of product matters as much as the technique. We use Redensity 2 by Teosyal, which is made specifically for this area. It also behaves as a skin booster, so the quality of the skin under the eye tends to improve over the months that follow rather than only the hollow being filled.
What causes dark circles and hollows
Volume loss is the usual cause. As the support under the eye thins, blood vessels sit closer to the surface and the area reads darker. A deep tear trough also creates a visible line between the cheek and the lower lid, which makes the eye look sunken.
It is not only ageing. In younger people it is often simply genetic. Sleep, both too little and too much, along with anaemia and allergies, can all make it more obvious. It affects men and women alike.
Who tends to be a good candidate

Needle or cannula
Both have a place. A cannula is blunt, which lowers the chance of bruising and is generally more comfortable. A needle is more precise. We discuss which suits you before we start rather than defaulting to one. The usual short-lived effects here are swelling, mild irritation, redness, tenderness at the injection site, occasional bruising and some itching.
How much filler, and when we review
Most people need one syringe. Deeper tear troughs sometimes need more, but we start with 1 ml at the first visit and review two weeks later before adding anything. The improvement is visible straight away and keeps settling for about two to three weeks.
What else helps around the eye
Filler answers the hollow. It does less for the condition of the skin itself, and around the eye that often matters just as much. A skin peel and the right home skincare for the eye area can improve texture and tone, and microneedling or PRP work on the skin rather than on the shadow beneath it. Combining them is often the more sensible plan, and we will say at the consultation if that would serve you better than more filler.
Who should not have this treatment
Most people tolerate under eye filler well, but there are situations where we would postpone or decline. Some of them mean waiting rather than ruling the treatment out. We check all of this at the consultation, so tell us about your health and anything you are taking.
- pregnancy or breastfeeding
- an active skin infection in the area we would be treating
- autoimmune or bleeding disorders
- blood-thinning medication, unless your doctor has cleared it
- a known allergy or sensitivity to any of the ingredients
- surgery, filler, laser or a chemical peel in the same area within the previous two to four weeks
