How long do results last?

Improvements tend to build gradually over several weeks as the skin renews itself. In most cases, we recommend a course of sessions spaced a few weeks apart, and the effect can then last for months. Occasional top-up sessions can help maintain it, and we suggest a realistic plan at your first visit.

Which PRP kit we use

The kit matters more than most people expect. We use Cellenis PRP kits and draw the sample into sterile tubes made for the purpose. If you are comparing clinics, it is a fair question to ask wherever you go: which kit do you use, and is the equipment certified for it. A clinic that cannot answer is worth a second thought.

How long the appointment takes

We take a blood sample of roughly 10 to 20 ml from your arm and prepare the plasma, then reintroduce it into the deeper layer of the skin under topical anaesthetic. Allow around 90 minutes to two hours for the whole visit. Where a course suits your skin, sessions are usually spaced six to eight weeks apart.

Areas beyond the face

PRP is not limited to the face. The neck and décolletage show sun damage and thinning early, because the skin there is thinner than the skin on the face, so lines and crepiness turn up sooner. We also treat the backs of the hands and the arms.

If you are already booked in for the face, adding the neck in the same visit is usually straightforward. We often pair PRP with microneedling, which is how the treatment is most commonly carried out here.

Side effects and the days after

Expect mild swelling, some redness and the odd bruise for the first 12 to 24 hours. Most people carry on as normal. Who should not have this treatment

We do not carry out PRP during pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding, we look at the timing case by case, so mention it at your consultation and we will say honestly whether to start now or wait. Certain blood disorders rule it out, and an active skin infection in the area we would be treating means waiting until it has settled.

PRP uses your own blood, so there is nothing foreign to react to. Your own medical history can still raise something else, so suitability is confirmed at your consultation.
