Is there research behind PRP for hair?

Yes. In a randomised, placebo-controlled trial at the University of Rome Tor Vergata (Gentile et al., Stem Cells Translational Medicine, 2015), scalp areas treated with PRP showed increased hair count and density compared with placebo in androgenetic alopecia. The findings are strongest in early to moderate thinning: PRP can support weakened follicles, but it cannot revive follicles that are no longer alive, which is why starting early matters.

Is PRP hair treatment painful, and is there downtime?

Most people describe pinpricks rather than pain. There is no real downtime, so you can go back to your day afterwards. We suggest leaving your hair unwashed for 24 hours and skipping intense exercise for 48.

Is PRP safe, and what are the side effects?

PRP uses your own blood, so there is nothing foreign to react to. Side effects are usually mild and short lived: tenderness, redness or slight swelling where the injections went in, and they settle within a day or two. A nurse carries out every session, following clinical protocols.

Can I have PRP while pregnant or breastfeeding?

We do not carry out PRP during pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding, we look at the timing case by case, so mention it at your consultation and we will say honestly whether to start now or wait.

It can, if it is caught early. Traction alopecia from tight styles weakens follicles before it scars them, and PRP can support recovery in that window, alongside changing the styling that caused the tension. Once follicles are scarred, PRP cannot bring them back, so an honest assessment comes first.
