What is anti-wrinkle treatment?
Anti-wrinkle treatment is a series of very small injections that temporarily relax the muscles behind expression lines. When a muscle moves less, the skin above it creases less, so existing lines soften and new ones are slower to form.
The treatment uses a prescription-only medicine. In Ireland that means it can only be given after an in-person assessment and a prescription from a qualified prescriber. At Vista Clinic that assessment happens in the clinic, before any treatment, every time.
It does not add volume or change the shape of your face. That is the job of dermal fillers. Anti-wrinkle treatment works on lines caused by movement, which is why it is so effective on the upper face.
Which areas can be treated?
Pricing is per area. These are the three most commonly treated:
- Forehead lines. The horizontal lines that appear when you raise your eyebrows.
- Frown lines. The vertical “11” lines between the eyebrows, often the first to deepen with age and concentration.
- Crow’s feet. The fine lines fanning out from the corners of the eyes when you smile.
Most people treat two or three areas together, because the upper face moves as one. Treating the frown on its own, for example, can leave the forehead working harder to compensate. Your nurse will tell you honestly whether one area is enough.
Who is it for?
Anti-wrinkle treatment suits adults who are bothered by expression lines and want a fresher, more rested look without surgery or downtime. Many of our patients in their late twenties and thirties use it preventively, to stop lines from setting in. Others in their forties and fifties use it to soften lines that are already visible at rest.
It is not suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, if you have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis, or if you have an infection or active skin condition in the area. Some medicines, including certain antibiotics, can also interact with it. Your nurse will go through your medical history in full at the assessment.
What happens on the day
- Assessment. Your nurse looks at how your face moves, talks through what bothers you and what you want to keep, and checks your medical history. If the treatment is not right for you, we will say so.
- Photos and plan. We take before photos and agree the areas and the result you are after.
- Treatment. Your skin is cleansed and a few very fine injections are placed in each area. Most people describe it as a quick sting. The injections themselves take about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Straight back to your day. You may have small raised marks for 20 to 30 minutes. Most patients go back to work the same afternoon.
The full appointment takes about 1 hour.
Results: when you’ll see them and how long they last
You will start to notice a difference after three to five days. The full result shows at around two weeks, which is why your review is booked for then. If an area needs a small top-up to even things out, it is done at the review at no extra cost.
Results usually last three to four months. Most patients come back two to four times a year. With regular treatment, many find the lines soften further and the time between appointments gets longer.
Our aim is a natural result. You should still be able to frown, smile and raise your eyebrows, just with fewer lines when you do.
Side effects
Side effects are usually mild and short-lived: redness or small bumps at the injection points for under an hour, occasional small bruises, and sometimes a mild headache on the first day.
Less commonly, a brow or eyelid can feel heavy or droop slightly. This is temporary and wears off as the treatment does. It is one of the reasons we assess how your forehead and brows work together before treating, and why we review every patient at two weeks.

Frequently asked questions
Does anti-wrinkle treatment hurt?
Most people find it very tolerable. The needle is extremely fine and each injection lasts a second or two. Some patients like a cold pack beforehand.
Will I look frozen?
Not if it is done well. We adjust the amount for each area so you keep natural expression. If you’d like a lighter result, tell us at the assessment.
How much does anti-wrinkle treatment cost in Dublin?
At Vista Clinic it is €150 for one area, €225 for two areas and €275 for three areas, including your assessment and two-week review.
How long does it last?
Usually three to four months. Results vary with your muscle strength, metabolism and how many times you have been treated before.
When can I go back to work or the gym?
You can go back to work straight away. Wait 24 hours before strenuous exercise.
Can I combine it with other treatments?
Yes. It is often combined with Profhilo or dermal fillers. Your nurse will suggest the order and timing at your assessment.
Can men have anti-wrinkle treatment?
Yes. Men often need a slightly different dose because facial muscles tend to be stronger, and we plan the treatment to keep a natural, masculine brow.
