PRP hair treatment at Vista Clinic Dublin

What is PRP hair treatment?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) hair restoration uses growth factors from your own blood to reactivate dormant hair follicles and thicken existing hair. A small blood sample is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and the plasma is injected into the scalp where thinning is visible. Because the treatment uses your own cells, there is no risk of allergic reaction and no synthetic chemicals involved.

Vista Clinic is a medical-led aesthetic clinic in Stillorgan, Dublin. PRP treatments are carried out using the Cellenis® PRP system — one of the most widely clinically documented PRP kits in Europe.

Who is it for?

  • Men and women with early to moderate hair thinning (androgenetic alopecia)
  • Postpartum or stress-related shedding that hasn’t fully recovered
  • Menopausal or hormonal thinning in women
  • Early traction alopecia — thinning edges or hairline from tight styles, where follicles are weakened but not scarred
  • Anyone who wants to strengthen hair density without surgery or daily medication

PRP works best while follicles are still active — earlier treatment gives better results. It is not suitable for fully bald areas, during pregnancy, or with certain blood disorders; suitability is confirmed at your free consultation.

What results can I expect, and when?

Frequently asked questions

How much does PRP hair treatment cost in Dublin?

At Vista Clinic, PRP hair treatment costs €275 per session, or €375 combined with microneedling. A course of 3 sessions is recommended for hair restoration; ask about course pricing.

Does PRP hair treatment actually work? Is there research?

Yes — in a randomised, placebo-controlled trial at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (Gentile et al., Stem Cells Translational Medicine, 2015), scalp areas treated with PRP showed significantly increased hair count and hair density compared with placebo in androgenetic alopecia. Results are best in early to moderate thinning: PRP reactivates weakened follicles, but cannot revive follicles that are completely dead — which is why starting early matters.

Is it painful? Is there downtime?

Discomfort is mild — most patients describe pinpricks. There’s no downtime: you can return to work immediately. Avoid washing your hair for 24 hours and intense exercise for 48 hours.

How many sessions will I need, and how long does each take?

The standard protocol is 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, then a maintenance session every 6–12 months. Each visit takes roughly 60–90 minutes including the blood draw and preparation. Your practitioner will confirm a plan at your free consultation.

How long do the results last?

After a full course, improvements typically hold for 9–12 months. Because the underlying cause of thinning (genetics, hormones) doesn’t go away, a maintenance session every 6–12 months is recommended to preserve density.

Is PRP safe? What are the side effects?

PRP uses your own blood, so there is no risk of allergic reaction or rejection. Typical side effects are mild and short-lived: tenderness, redness or slight swelling at the injection sites for 24–48 hours. It is performed under clinical protocols in a medical-led setting.

Can I have PRP while pregnant or breastfeeding?

PRP is not performed during pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding, timing is assessed individually — mention it at your free consultation and we’ll advise honestly on whether to start now or wait.

Does PRP help traction alopecia or thinning edges?

It can — if caught early. Traction alopecia from tight styles weakens follicles before it scars them; PRP can support recovery in that early window, ideally combined with changing the styling that caused the tension. Once follicles are scarred, PRP cannot restore them, so an honest assessment comes first. This is exactly what the free consultation is for.

Why have PRP in Ireland instead of a package abroad?

PRP is a course of treatments, not a one-off procedure — 3 sessions over ~3 months plus maintenance. A clinic 15 minutes away means every session, follow-up and question is handled by the same team that knows your case, with no flights, hotels or chasing an overseas clinic on WhatsApp if something needs attention. Irish clinics also operate under Irish/EU healthcare and consumer protections.
